Ravishment mocks the glorification of violence by immersing the audience into a space of glamorous and organized pain. Taking influence from Western media and commercialism, the work is both a process of healing from and perpetuating savagery. Ravishment demonstrates levels of how violence can be felt and triggered, while reinforcing the absurdity of how violence is presented and received. The assemblage of discarded, industrial, and luxury materials emphasizes the vulgarity and fragility of physical and mental damage. Living in a state of violence, while existing within one’s own experiences of pain, yields the need for something beautiful.
