flying with huma

2 channel projection, date seeds, gold thread

The Huma bird flies the skies, never touching the ground. She is invisible to the human eye and every few hundred years she flies into fire and is reborn from the ashes. Existing with female and male qualities, one wing and one leg, she represents unreachable highness and is said to bring good fortune to those lucky enough to catch a glimpse of her shadow. Some with great imaginations say they see her sitting at the top of date palms. The date palm, or tree of life,  nourishes survival and social gatherings. The fruit has existed for so long, it outlives humanity.

Tales and tools for survival, life, and death create constellations of tranquility and vision. Flying with considers fantasy and movement as rituals of healing and renewal..  As the earth invites us to fly away, burn, and be reborn, memories and conversations of ancestry along with experiences of hallucination surface to awaken different ways of participating in this world. To learn how to fly like the Huma bird is to be uplifted differently, to fall with the darkness and magic of nature, and to share pulses of trickery and wisdom.
